Job Title: Field Officer
Start Date: 16th March 2015
Location: Nation wide
Eligibility: Position open to local Kenyan hires only
Busara Center for Behavioral Economics is a research organization that seeks to improve the understanding of how people living in poverty make decisions and to leverage that knowledge to produce better social outcomes. It enables researchers to conduct rigorous laboratory-based studies in behavioral economics in a developing country and applying the outcomes of research to real-world problems.
About the project:
This research will be working with the Busara Center for Behavioral Economics and Bridge International Academies to assess the effectiveness and impact of their unique school curriculum. Field officers will be working with schools nationwide to assess and measure student performance, teacher motivation, and effects of education on family livelihoods.
The research study will be conducted in 15-20 counties across Kenya and will require significant travel. Working outside of regular business hours (in the morning or in the evening) will sometimes be necessary.

NGO Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to;
1.       Explaining research objectives and obtaining informed consent from participants
2.       Conducting school surveys with selected schools and students
3.       Demonstrating integrity and understanding during interaction with school heads, and partner organization staff
4.       Ensuring data integrity is maintained at all times and minimize errors in data collection
assisting in daily survey organization and storage, and maintenance of equipment
5.       Providing the Project Lead with daily feedback regarding surveying activities
on non-field days, performing office duties such translation work, filing of records, and other administrative tasks
Key NGO Job Responsibilities
·         Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
·         Experience with data collection through household surveys, academic tests, exit interviews, focus groups or observations—show proof of this in application
·         Organized and efficient, with excellent attention to detail
·         Comfortable with interviewing individuals with in their homes
·         Computer knowledge and skills mandatory
·         Ability to comfortably work with groups and within groups
·         A positive attitude and flexibility with changing circumstances
·         Desired
·         Bachelors’ degree or college diploma in social sciences, health and/or Business Administration
·         Past experience in data collection–show proof of this in application
·         Experience in data collection using Blaise,or other computer-assisted personal interviewing(CAPI) software will be an added advantage
·         Good communication skills
·         Previous experience working with schools
