Reproductive Health Services (RHS) seeks to contribute to the reduction of the high maternal morbidity and mortality in Kenya through promoting the prevention and/or reduction of unintended pregnancies and by advocating for repeal or reform of laws and policies that restrict access to sexual and reproductive health. 

RHS plays a key role in supporting RHRA’s advocacy efforts by linking advocacy to service delivery; specifically, by building the capacity of reproductive health advocates including health care providers, community change agents, and young people to support the provision of quality sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services and raising awareness on the legal and policy framework on SRH.

RHS a non-governmental organization in Nairobi seeks to recruit a
Project Intern for its RHS/RHRA advocacy project. 

Reporting to the RHS/RHRA focal person and the Project Coordinator, the intern will be responsible for providing administrative and logistical support to the project.

Intern Duties & Responsibilities:
Ø  Support the implementation of the RHS/RHRA advocacy project work plan in accordance with the grant agreement.
Ø  Provide administrative support to the RHS/RHRA project staff.
Ø  Assist with the coordination of RHS events, meetings, and workshops including logistics planning, preparing materials, note taking and report writing in liaison with RHS/RHRA project team.
Ø  Prepare and submit weekly updates and mid-term and end-term progress reports to the RHS/RHRA project team.
Ø  Identify key local, regional and international SRH forums/conferences for the RHS/RHRA team to participate.
Ø  In collaboration with the RHS/RHRA team, assist in the development of SRH-related abstracts, publications and documentation of RHS/RHRA project achievements for dissemination.
Ø  Build relationships by initiating and maintaining contacts with Alliance members, NGO partners, county government and community actors.
Ø  Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Ø  Completed Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Project Management or related degree.
Ø  Demonstrated interest in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.
Ø  Willing to commit to the internship for three (3) months with possibility of extension based on performance.
Ø  Self-motivation, responsible work ethic, and a high degree of professionalism.
Ø  Ability to work independently and as a team.
Ø  Proficient in planning, organizing, coordinating and prioritizing multiple tasks within a project.
Ø  Fluency in English is required; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ø  Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook); and Social Media Tools.

Qualifications and Competencies
*       At least  a holder of Form 4 KCSE or its equivalent
*       Fluency in spoken and written English
*       Must be able to work in a team
*       Past experience in a similar environment will be an added advantage.
*       MSM friendly or member of key population

We are looking for a qualified graduate or diploma + 5 years’ experience individual to join our ENERGIA-Kenya Network team in Kajiado as a volunteer. 
This individual should be prepared to work in a fast paced team environment and will finish volunteering having gained broad experience in various aspects of mainstreaming gender in energy project implementation, advocacy, lobbying and Networking.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • To support the ENERGIA-Kenya focal point in Kajiado County (Arid Lands Information Network - ALIN) to implement activities as assigned by the Network Secretariat (Practical Action) Specifically:
  • To support documentation of the energy access scenarios in the county as well as well as energy planning at county level.
  • To support mapping, mobilization and recruit relevant gender and energy players in the Network.
  • To support planning and facilitation of a sensitization forum on gender and energy involving the county government.
  • To support mapping of energy innovators in the county.
  • To support identification of financial institutions in the county and develop linkages with energy innovators/entrepreneurs.
  • To support the process of business mentoring for women energy entrepreneurs.
  • To support identification of energy entrepreneurs and their participation in various trainings.
  • To support preparation of at least two case studies on current/past member energy projects for sharing
  • Support for planning for exchange visit. For women energy entrepreneurs
  • Support mapping of key opportunities for Network resource mobilization.
  • Support development of 3 project ideas/concept notes for fundraising with support from ENERGIA-Kenya secretariat and technical working groups.
  • Support planning for training/capacity building for members in advocacy and lobbying.
  • Support development of an advocacy agenda for the county and participate in advocacy forums for gender mainstreaming in energy planning and delivery at county and national level.
  • Participate in Network activities: training, County meetings and national meetings, information sharing etc.
  • Participate in team meetings as required
  • Undertake any other relevant duties assigned from time to time by the line manager. 
Requirements
  • A graduate in Energy, Social Science, Gender, or other relevant fields, or a Diploma with over 5 years’ experience in the development sector. A mix of skills and attributes is required for this position. The successful Volunteer should have the following:
  • Knowledge of gender, Advocacy , energy and development issues in Kenya
  • Good writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work at grass root level
  • Substantial lobbying and advocacy skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel to work in the field
  • Donor contacts on energy and gender
  • Financial management/budgeting
  • Training experience
  • Resource mobilization skills an added advantage.
  • Must be a member of ENERGIA-Kenya Network
